Sonnet

What would you have me doing on this day?
Thinking of rhyme, rhythm and deep meaning
Come up with something first-class? I just may
But I have no clue what I am doing

Thinking and speaking, counting syllables
Not satisfied with anything written
My work will be less than honorable
Or painful, like as if I’ve been bitten

The teacher’s face is clearly unimpressed
All the effort put in is now worthless
Put my head down, pull at hair, clearly stressed
Not an easy task, one done with finesse

I give up, I cannot write a sonnet
It is clear now that my mark will plummet

  1. Really impressed that you were successful in writting a sonnet, and a pretty decent one as well! well done :)

  2. I like this poem, and it has a genuine feel even though the poem ended up being a success. This is the only sonnet I remember being read out loud. I've watched that gif at least 20 times now. Overall it definitely improves this blog post. Continue to put thoughtful images after each post.

  3. This is a great poem! Also considering all the outside influences where you wrote it so quickly in class to read it out. You seem to write well under pressure which is a great gift that will help your future in writing. Also well done with the media you added to this poem. It helps bring in people's attention and matches the atmosphere of your poem. Keep using experiences you are going through in your literature and you will become an even better writer!

  4. LOVE IT!
I completely remember you reading this one out to the class. I think that it is much better read aloud, because to me, when I was reading it in my head, the second stanza didn't really flow as nicely as I remember it when you read it.
I think that the ending is extremely effective. The word plummet just shows how much you thought that poetry would lower your mark. Which was clearly not the case, because after reading all of the ones that you posted, it is evident that poetry is your forte.
